St. Vincent and the Grenadines were defeated by Dominica as The Inaugural Senior Windward Islands Men’s 50 Over Cricket Championship concluded on Wednesday May 30th in St. Lucia.
Alex Athanaze, West Indies Under 19 top scorer in the 2018 ICC Under-19 ODI Championship in New Zealand proved himself again, a match winner.
Athanaze continuing his brilliant form slammed a well organised century, propelling Dominica to 214 all out off 45.1 overs after having been 172 for 7 in the 38th over. Athanaze, the ninth wicket to fall, made 101 off 117 balls, 11 fours and 2 sixes. Kavem Hodge chipped in with 38. Obed McCoy 4 for 17 and Casmond Walters 3 for 25 were SVG best bowlers.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines got to 200 all out off 40.5 overs, mostly thanks to a late blitz by captain Delorn Johnson who got 37 from 23 balls. Donwell Hector 36, Kenneth Dember 24, Casmond Walters 22 all had starts but failed to carry on. At 198 for 8, 16 runs to get with two wickets in hand the game looked prime for a close finish but Dominica made light work of the remaining batters. Kavem Hodge 3 for 32, Liam Sebastien 3 for 45 did the damage for Dominica.
Dominica remained unbeaten throughout the tournament to be hailed champions of the first ever Windward Islands Senior Men’s 50 Over Championship.
